With the use of an injury exception, the Memphis Grizzlies have been rumored to be interested in the services of big man Alex Stephenson. A University of Southern California product, Stephenson went undrafted in 2011 and was a stud in the D-League for the Iowa Energy, averaging 16 points and 13.8 rebounds.
Stephenson was on the Grizzlies preseason and training camp roster, but didn't make the cut prior to joining the Energy, and most recently spent time with the Los Angeles Clippers on two 10-day contracts. Appearing in four games for a total just under 12 minutes, scoring a bucket, grabbing two rebounds and swatting away two shots.
Memphis now has four former Clippers on the roster, with Lance Stephenson being acquired at the deadline, Ryan Hollins via free agency and Matt Barnes during a summer trade. Could set up some entertaining story lines as the two sides are expected to face off in the first round of the playoffs.
